Manchester United round-up: Juan Mata on what players want; Rooney injury worry

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United

Manchester United’s players are waking up today to the disappointment of losing 3-0 to Everton at Goodison Park.

United had been hoping to put their recent defeat to Chelsea behind them but instead they lost their second consecutive match against an impressive Toffees side.

Writing in his weekly blog, United play-maker Juan Mata expressed his disappointment at three dropped points, highlighting the importance of a top-four finish.

“We all want to be in the Champions League next season and, in order to get there, we must go back to the right path with good performances and good results,” Mata said.

“We can’t afford another game like this one.”

United’s next match is at home to West Bromwich Albion and with Liverpool having a game-in-hand there are likely to be a few more twists and turns before the campaign is through.

In other news, the Independent reports that United captain Wayne Rooney is causing a few concerns at Old Trafford following an injury he picked up on Sunday.

The report claims United now face an anxious wait to see the extent of the damage down to his knee that prompted him to leave the field two minutes from time.

United cannot afford to be without their skipper for the run-in, with some tough matches still to come.
