Ezequiel Lavezzi scored a hat-trick for PSG on Saturday as they beat Lille 6-1.
After only scoring four goals in their last four games, it’s no surprise that Liverpool have been linked with a move for Paris Saint-Germain forward Ezequiel Lavezzi this summer by the likes of the Express. The Argentina international was on top form this weekend, scoring a hat-trick as the Parisians destroyed Lille 6-1 on Saturday.
Liverpool’s 0-0 draw with West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, along with Manchester United’s defeat to Everton, leaves the Anfield club seven points behind fourth place, but they have a game in hand.
Lavezzi has not enjoyed the best campaign this season, but his performance at the weekend showed just how much he still has to offer and how versatile he could be in the Liverpool attack.
With Zlatan Ibrahimovic out suspended, Lavezzi played a more central role beside Edinson Cavani and it was his pace and constant movement that the Lille defence struggled to cope with.
Both forwards burst through Lille’s offside trap before Cavani laid off the chance on a plate for Lavezzi.
The second goal was created by Blaise Matuidi, but it was Lavezzi’s sense of positioning that helped put his side 4-0 up. Matuidi made the run down the left, the Argentine had the sense to hold back and find the space to add the finish.
It was his third and PSG’s sixth goal that most aptly showed the quality he still possesses. Javier Pastore played the ball into his feet, Lavezzi’s first touch took the ball past Lille’s Simon Kjaer and onto his right, the second touch saw him find the bottom corner with his weaker foot.
If PSG are still willing to sell Lavezzi this summer to increase their transfer budget, Liverpool could do a lot worse and make the move to bring Lavezzi’s drive, energy and experience to Anfield.
