It may not have been the goal-scoring extravaganza that some were hoping for, but Arsenal’s Premier League match against Chelsea still saw some of the division’s best talents clashing in intriguing fashion.
While Arsenal have owed much to summer signing Alexis Sanchez’s brilliant form in his debut campaign, Chelsea have benefitted from Eden Hazard’s performances – form which subsequently earned him the PFA Player of the Year award.
Sanchez has played 46 matches for Arsenal this season, scoring 22 goals and providing 11 assists to date. In contrast, Hazard has featured 47 times for Chelsea, netting 18 goals and setting up an additional 12.
That comparison means Arsenal fans have questioned exactly why the Chelsea player beat the Chilean to Sunday’s award; but that is a debate for another day. Here we take a look at how the two stars compared in their weekend clash.
In terms of passing accuracy, the Chelsea player came out on top, his 89 per cent compared with just 77 per cent from Sanchez.
Hazard also came out on top in terms of dribbles and he was not dispossessed for the entire match (compared with the five times Sanchez lost the ball).
However, the Arsenal player outshone his rival when it came to recovering the ball, duels won and shots, although neither player had a shot on target or played a single key pass all afternoon.
