Danny Murphy: What I liked about Arsenal's performance against Chelsea

Arsenal Stadium - Emirates

Former England midfielder Danny Murphy was impressed by the Arsenal defence against Chelsea yesterday.

Former England midfielder Danny Murphy explained on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show for talkSPORT what he liked about Arsenal’s performance against Chelsea yesterday.

Arsenal secured a point in a 0-0 draw against Premier League leaders Chelsea and Murphy has suggested what he feels was the most impressive aspect of the game for the Gunners.

“What I liked about Arsenal was as they got forward, they looked secure at the back – They didn’t really look like conceding at all,” he said.

Arsenal have been criticised at times this season for the way they over commit players in attack, which leaves individuals exposed on the counter attack.

Monaco in the first leg of the Champions League tie is a good example, as well as the home defeat to Manchester United in the Premier League.

They were careful as they went in search of a goal and that enabled defensive security, which Chelsea found difficult to break through.

Arsene Wenger needs to box up the good things Arsenal did defensively against the Blues and ensure that they are replicated over the rest of the season.

Arsenal are battling against Manchester City to secure second place in the Premier League, as well as fending off the sides just beneath them in the table.

Second has to be the aim for the Gunners because it would mean automatic qualification into the Champions League, which would reduce the need for a qualifier during pre-season.
