Celtic fans debate POTY award on Twitter: did the best man win?

Celtic Parkhead

Stefan Johansen took home the player of the year award on Sunday night.

It was all smiles at Celtic as Stefan Johansen claimed the player of the year award on Sunday night.

The Norwegian midfielder has enjoyed a truly impressive campaign at Parkhead and there was no shortage of supporters cheering him on after he took the gong.

And that extended to social media, where legions of Celtic fans congratulated the 24-year-old on what they felt was a deserved achievement.

There were plenty of others, though, who didn't cast their vote for the midfielder. Indeed, some fans were left disappointed that goalkeeper Craig Gordon wasn't handed the Bhoys' player of the year award.

Gordon has been equally superb for Celtic this season and has won games with his saves alone. For a man who hadn't played for two years and returned from injury only last summer, that is impressive going by anyone's standards.

There was no ill feeling, of course, as everyone was pleased for Johansen and the fact there were so many candidates for the award in the first place shows things have been done right at Parkhead this campaign. But not everyone agreed that Johansen should have been Celtic's man. At the same time, though, many Hoops fans indeed did.

Here's a selection of the Twitter reaction...
