Brendan Rodgers suggests Jordon Ibe could be an effective central midfielder

The Liverpool boss has made some interesting comments about one of the club's young stars.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has been speaking to the club’s website about young winger Jordon Ibe.

The 19-year-old returned to Anfield in January following a successful loan spell at Championship club Derby County, and from Rodgers’ latest comments it is clear he rates the Reds player extremely highly.

“He’s very important because he’s direct and he wants to create and score goals,” the Liverpool boss said.

“He’s got lovely technique. He could play as a midfield player because he passes the ball really well and has a good idea of the game.”

As things stand, Ibe is very much a winger who operates predominantly from the right although his spell at Derby saw him playing on the opposite flank.

But according to Rodgers, there could yet be a surprise positional change in Ibe’s future; one that could bode well for the club give his clear eye for a pass.

Ibe is clearly an important player for Liverpool having played a significant role since his return, and while a minor injury saw him sit out five league games he has played – and impressed in – the last two.

For now he looks very much a winger, but if Rodgers is to be believed, could Liverpool be seeing the emergence of a future central midfield star?
