Celtic manager Ronny Deila has told the club's official Twitter account that he has a growing relationship with striker Leigh Griffiths.
Griffiths, a signing from Wolverhampton Wanderers almost 18 months ago, scored his second hat-trick in 11 days this afternoon, as his treble saw Celtic beat Dundee United 3-0.
The 24-year-old has now taken his tally to 18 goals for the season, with 14 of them coming since the turn of the year as he shows remarkable improvement under Deila.
The Norwegian relied heavily upon John Guidetti to spearhead the Bhoys attack earlier in the season, but Deila now trusts Griffiths to lead the line on a regular basis.
Griffiths' recent form has been sensational, and speaking to the Celtic Twitter account after the final whistle at Tannadice this afternoon, Deila admitted that he and Griffiths now have a stronger working relationship than earlier in the season, and the understanding between the two is contributing to his form in front of goal.
RD on @Leighgriff09 "We have started to get to know one another and he knows what I expect and I know what he can contribute." (MH)— Celtic Football Club (@celticfc) April 26, 2015
RD: "Makes him more comfortable on the pitch. He is also getting consistency in playing time and is getting confidence." (MH)— Celtic Football Club (@celticfc) April 26, 2015
RD: "And you are seeing how good he can be. As a finisher, he’s really good and works really hard for the team as well." (MH)— Celtic Football Club (@celticfc) April 26, 2015
Celtic fans will be delighted to hear those comments from Deila, especially considering that Guidetti is only on loan and Stefan Scepovic has made little impact this season.
That leaves Griffiths as Celtic's clear first-choice striker, and after another hat-trick, he just keeps getting better and better - and it could well be down to his better understanding with Deila and his tactics as the Norwegian comes to the end of his first season in charge of Celtic.
