A host of Premier League clubs have been linked with the highly-rated Roberto Firmino, including Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United.

According to a report in the Mirror, Manchester City have made the first move for reported Arsenal and Manchester United target Roberto Firmino.

The Brazilian international has long done the rounds in the British press with links to City’s Premier League rivals Arsenal, as per a previous report by the Mirror.

Moreover, the Daily Star stated just a few weeks ago that Manchester United have agreed a deal for the talented playmaker, the Red Devils reportedly accepting a fee of £18.6 million.

The Gunners and United, however, already boast some of the best attacking options in the Premier League and focus has maybe shifted to other areas of the team this summer.

City, in contrast, need to shake things up at the Etihad stadium and Firmino is among the Bundesliga’s brightest talents, scoring six and adding a further nine assists in 30 league matches this season.

The Mirror reports that preliminary talks have already begun over a £20 million transfer, with the club welcoming representatives of the playmaker to the Etihad stadium this week.

Firmino, 23, can be best described as a talented playmaker who works well off the striker – a role which City could benefit from as they rely too much on the likes of Sergio Aguero and David Silva.

Manuel Pellegrini’s men have disappointed this season, and a number of players including former first-teamers Edin Dzeko and Yaya Toure could be leaving the club in the summer.

Firmino is the right age for City as they ought to start buying players who can help challenge on all fronts for a number of years, though as per the report, they may have strong competition for his signature.
