BBC pundit Gary Lineker has taken to social networking site Twitter to single out Everton defender John Stones for praise as his side crushed Manchester United 3-0.
The Toffees have been in great form of late, winning four of their previous five matches heading into their encounter with the Red Devils.
United, likewise, had been in excellent form over the past two months, but they suffered their second successive defeat at Goodison Park in quite spectacular fashion.
Goals from James McCarthy, John Stones and Kevin Mirallas sealed a resounding win for Roberto Martinez’s side, but it was a victory built on solid foundations at the back.
The Toffees have been criticised defensively this season, but they’ve now conceded just two goals in six Premier League matches, prompting Lineker to single out centre-back John Stones for praise.
I like John Stones a lot. I hope he's not bullied into being the safety first defender that is the bane of our game.— Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) abril 26, 2015
The 20-year-old moved to the blue half of Merseyside from Barnsley in the summer of 2013 and had one of his best games of his career in an Everton shirt on Sunday.

As per the table provided by Opta Stats, Stones was defensively solid throughout and comfortable in possession when his side instigated attacks from the back.
The England international produced two tackles, five effective clearances, eight defensive duel winners and four ball recoveries alongside centre-back partner Phil Jagielka.
Stones has a big future in the game, and under the guidance of Roberto Martinez he will be allowed to use his qualities and express himself with the ball when playing out from the back.
