Fans react on Twitter to Southampton rejection for PFA Team of the Year

Most fans seem to think Jose Fonte and Nathaniel Clyne should have been in the team with Ryan Bertrand.

The PFA Premier League Team of the Year has been announced today, with several Chelsea players included. All in all six players from the league leaders are present, with few of them debatable. However, Southampton fans are certainly feeling aggrieved.

The Saints have one player in the team, himself a former Chelsea player. Ryan Bertrand is at left-back in the side. However Southampton fans felt two more defenders should have been included.

While nobody seems to dispute John Terry is deserving of his place in the back-line, there is a chorus of fans on Twitter who believe Gary Cahill and Branislav Ivanovic should not be present. Most of those also suggest Southampton players as potential replacements - Jose Fonte and Nathaniel Clyne.

Southampton have the fiercest defence in the Premier League and this season has seen both Clyne and Fonte impress so much they are regulars for their respective nations now.

The fact is that Clyne and Fonte have been fantastic this season, and Southampton fans are right to think they should be present.

But Chelsea are top of the league with their defence equally as impressive throughout the campaign. So either way, one set of fans was due to be upset.

Here is some of the reaction from Twitter to the team...
