The Atletico Madrid forward has reached seven centuries of appearances for club and country.
Fernando Torres made his 700th career appearance for club and country yesterday, with the veteran striker playing a role in Atletico Madrid’s 3-0 win over Elche.
The former Liverpool and Chelsea striker played the full 90 minutes of the routine victory at the Estadio Vicente Calderon, but took to Twitter in the aftermath of the game to thanks fans for their support.
The Spain international was a fans favourite at Anfield over the space of four years, scoring 65 goals in 102 appearances for the Merseyside outfit.
Torres ostracised himself with the Kop after agreeing to a £50 million move to Chelsea however, where things did not work out for El Nino.
After a brief spell at AC Milan, the 31-year-old is back with boyhood club Atletico and has started to find form for Diego Simeone’s men.
Torres has also played 110 times for his country over the years, scoring 38 international goals in the process.
The centre forward will continue to play an important role for Atletico in their bid to qualify for next season’s Champions League, with his days in England starting to become a distant memory
