One of Tottenham Hotspur's best players this weekend has been speaking about his contribution.
Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier has been speaking about his contribution to his side’s 2-2 draw with Southampton on Saturday.
In comments published by the club’s official Twitter account, the summer signing explained that he had never set up two goals in the same match before – until this weekend that is.
Dier provided the assist for Erik Lamela’s 43rd-minute goal and Nacer Chadli’s 70th-minute effort, adding to his impressive contributions at the opposite end of the pitch.
Dier may have been signed to keep the ball out at one end, but he is proving to be an effective attacking outlet in the final third of the pitch, as his two goals and three assists this season are beginning to show.
Speaking after Tottenham’s latest match, Dier said, “I’ve never had two assists before. I’m happy with whoever is setting up the goals.”
It was a humble assessment of a fine individual performance and there is no doubt that for the money Tottenham spent on him, they have signed a bargain.
