Southampton fans react on Twitter to Jose Fonte's performance v Spurs

Southampton supporters were overjoyed with their captain once more.

So the spoils were shared as Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino visited his former side on Saturday afternoon.

Interestingly, Pochettino is unbeaten against Southampton this season, having won against them at White Hart Lane and earned a 2-2 draw at St Mary's. Graziano Pelle scored twice for the Saints and rightly earned plenty of plaudits from supporters as a result.

Erik Lamela and Nacer Chadli netted for Tottenham, meanwhile, as both sides would have gone home satisfied with a point - although many Southampton fans felt they deserved a win.

Notably, though, Harry Kane - Tottenham's breakthrough hero this season - had a quiet game. And many Saints fans had one person (maybe two) to thank for that particular feet.

Indeed, Maya Yoshida was the maybe second. But Jose Fonte stole most of the praise on Twitter after the game for yet another impressive performance for Southampton.

The 31-year-old was said to have 'kept Kane in his back pocket,' with plenty urging him to release the Spurs star on social media after the game.

Is Fonte Southampton's player of the season? He was certainly on form once again this weekend. Here's how Saints fans reacted to his display v Tottenham - and Kane:
