Newcastle's Tim Krul among three realistic Hugo Lloris replacements for Tottenham

Hugo Lloris

With the French goalkeeper keen to play in the Champions League, Tottenham Hotspur could turn to any one of these three options as a replacement.

Hugo Lloris could be on his way out of White Hart Lane this summer, with the France international reportedly keen on playing in the Champions League – but Tottenham fans need not panic.

The Guardian reported earlier this week that the 28-year-old was seeking a move to a club competing in the UEFA competition and while his departure would be a blow to Spurs, there are plenty of viable alternatives out there – here are three of them.

Mathew Ryan – Club Brugge

Belgian Pro League Goalkeeper of the Year for the past two seasons, Ryan had a one-week trial with Spurs back in 2012 according to Sky Sports, but ultimately failed to secure a deal with the club.

Since then, however, the 23-year-old has gone from strength to strength, impressing for the Australia national team at the 2014 World Cup and 2015 Asia Cup. He has also excelled in Europe with Brugge, keeping important clean sheets against the likes of Torino and Dnipro already this season.

The Metro reported back in January that Liverpool were considering a bid for the goalkeeper, but Tottenham would be wise to rekindle their interest in this Socceroos up-and-comer.

Tim Krul – Newcastle United

One of the few bright lights for the Magpies in an otherwise dreary season in the Premier League, Krul has impressed throughout his time on Tyneside and looks destined for bigger and better things.

Back in November of 2013, The Guardian reported on Krul’s heroics against Tottenham, with the Dutchman saving a sensational 14 shots on goal during a 1-0 win for Newcastle.

Since then his stock has gone up even further with a penalty-saving cameo for Holland at the World Cup in 2014 a particular highlight.

The Mirror had Tottenham linked with a move for the 27-year-old back in December, with the news outlet claiming he could cost Spurs as much as £20 million. It would be money well spent.

Vincent Enyeama – Lille

A left-field choice perhaps, but with Tottenham enjoying notable success after recruiting Lloris from Ligue 1, turning to France could prove to be a shrewd move for Daniel Levy and co.

Among the best goalkeepers plying his trade across the Channel at present, the 32-year-old went an incredible 1,062 minutes without conceding a goal in the French top-flight according to SuperSport and was just 114 minutes from breaking the overall record in Ligue 1, which was set back in 1993.

A seasoned international with exactly 100 caps for Nigeria to his name, Enyeama is thought to be looking for a move this summer, with Pulse reporting on a potential Besiktas switch.

Experienced and available at a lower price than Krul or Ryan, Spurs should take a closer look at Enyeama.
