Newcastle fans: Siem de Jong was the 'only positive' in Swansea defeat

Newcastle fans were impressed with Siem de Jong's display against Swansea City.

Newcastle United slumped to a seventh straight defeat on Saturday afternoon, losing 3-2 to Swansea City at St. James' Park.

Things just seem to be going from bad to worse for the Magpies, with interim manager John Carver still struggling in charge of the club.

It started so well for Newcastle, with Ayoze Perez giving them the lead - but that's as good as it got for Newcastle as Swansea ran riot.

Goals from Nelson Oliveira, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Jack Cork put Swansea into a 3-1 lead, but substitute Siem de Jong did pull one back late on.

De Jong has seen his season ravaged by injury, but he came on with 15 minutes to go and made a big impact with a goal 13 minutes after his introduction.

The former Ajax man is a known goalscorer from his time in the Netherlands, and many fans believe they have missed him impact this season.

Despite it being another dismal afternoon on Tyneside, fans took to Twitter after the game to praise de Jong, with some suggesting that he is 'like a new signing', whilst the general consensus was that de Jong provided the only bright spot of a torrid game.

Here are some of the tweets from Newcastle fans on Siem de Jong's performance against Swansea City...
