Some current Manchester United players could be on their way in a few months.
In comments published by the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has confirmed that not only will he be looking to make additions this summer, but some current stars are also set to leave the club.
Speaking about the possibility of signing reinforcements, the Dutchman said, “It’s not so easy. It’s dependable on the market.
“We shall also sell players and that is also dependable on the market.”
So who could United sell this summer? Here we take a look at the three most likely candidates:
Brazilian full-back Rafael has hardly featured for United since van Gaal took charge. The 24-year-old is now very much second-choice behind Antonio Valencia, despite the latter not being a natural right-back.
At 24, and with his current contract expiring in 2016, it would be no surprise to see Rafael move on this summer.
Anders Lindegaard is now third-choice goalkeeper at Old Trafford behind David de Gea and Victor Valdes.
Even if De Gea does leave United this summer, which seems highly unlikely given that he has another year on his current deal, expect Lindegaard to move on.
The 31-year-old has only played 29 senior games for United since arriving at the club and he has the talent to be a regular first-choice elsewhere.
This one may split opinion, but it is hard to see a way back for Nani at United despite his fine form for loan club Sporting Lisbon.
The Portugal international has scored 11 goals and provided eight assists since returning to the Primeira Liga, but with Angel di Maria and Adnan Januzaj at United, and with the possibility of Memphis Depay joining them, van Gaal could cash in on the 28-year-old.
