Lord Sugar has taken to social networking site Twitter to suggest that Tottenham Hotspur should sign defenders in the summer transfer window.
The former Tottenham chairman made the comments during Spurs’ 2-2 draw with Southampton away from home at St. Mary’s Stadium in the Premier League earlier today.
No defence easy goal for Southampton. MP needs to go into the market next season for defenders 2-1— Lord Sugar (@Lord_Sugar) April 25, 2015
It seems that Lord Sugar was not impressed with the defending on show by Tottenham today, and neither was the club’s former midfielder Darren Anderton, who made the following post on Twitter when Graziano Pelle opened the scoring at St. Mary’s just before the half-hour mark.
Are you kidding me.. Schoolboy defending— Darren Anderton (@Darren_Anderton) April 25, 2015
Tottenham have looked defensively vulnerable throughout the season, and the performance of the back-four against the Saints left much to be desired.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side have conceded as many as 49 goals in 34 Premier League games so far this season - that’s more than Hull City and Aston Villa, both of whom are struggling for survival in the English top flight.
Spurs do have some good defenders, but perhaps as a unit they are struggling. Jan Vertonghen is a superb centre-back, while Eric Dier is a promising young player who can play at right-back and in central defence.
