The German midfielder has been linked by Sky Sports with a summer move to Manchester United, leaving many fans delighted that the Borussia Dortmund man could ply his trade at Old Trafford next term.
Gary Neville was also intrigued by the news, initially asking his followers for a translation of a version of the story from Europe.
Former Liverpool defender Carragher, however, reacted on Twitter with mockery, giving off a jokey, unimpressed vibe.
Indeed, he suggested Manchester United were getting a 'crock' and responded critically to someone who responded to him on social media.

Being a Liverpool man, Carragher was likely only mocking United light-heartedly.
The Gundogan reports have, in general, been met with a positive reception from Manchester United fans, although some have asked whether it is really a midfielder Louis van Gaal's side need next season.
This weekend, meanwhile, Van Gaal will take his United team to Goodison Park to face Everton on Sunday afternoon. Liverpool will travel to the Midlands to take on West Brom at the Hawthorns on the Saturday.
