Celtic to reportedly send Aleksandar Tonev and Mubarak Wakaso back at end of the season

Two current Celtic players will reportedly soon be on their way.

According to a report from the Daily Record, Celtic manager Ronny Deila is set to send loanees Aleksandar Tonev and Mubarak Wakaso back to Aston Villa and Rubin Kazan respectively.

Tonev has played just 13 matches for Celtic this season, and his outing as a substitute against Inverness Caledonian Thistle last weekend was his first senior appearance since December.

As for Wakaso, the Ghana international has played just 11 times and has had minimal impact to date, scoring just one goal and setting up another.

Deila has clearly settled on a regular starting line-up that works very well and it is no surprise that both Tonev and Wakaso look to be close to a departure.

When you consider the young players coming through the ranks at Celtic Park and the likely additions this summer, extending the two loan moves – or even turning them into permanent transfers – makes little sense.

Celtic remain on course for a domestic double this season but the likelihood of Tonev or Wakaso getting much game-time in the weeks ahead appears minimal.
