Former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez took to Twitter in order to celebrate Barcelona’s 2-0 Catalan derby victory over spirited rivals Espanyol.
Barca headed in to the encounter coming off the back of a controlled 2-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, and their first-half performance followed suit.
An early opener from Neymar following a wonderful 25-pass sequence – a La Liga record this season - put the visitors ahead before Argentine superstar Lionel Messi doubled their advantage with a classy finish.
Luis Enrique’s side had to hold on during the second-half as the hosts piled on the pressure following a Jordi Alba red card, but the victory was deserved and their lead at the top of La Liga preserved.
Eternal rivals Real Madrid travel to Celta Vigo tomorrow, but for now the Barca group can celebrate yet another positive result, with Suarez leading the way on social networking site Twitter.
Vamosssssss qué lindo partido y 3 puntos importantísimos!! Gran esfuerzo de todos. Vamos Barça!! pic.twitter.com/NwMgK6XRRZ— Luis Suarez (@LuisSuarez9) abril 25, 2015
He wrote: “Come on… A pretty match and three extremely important points. A great effort from everybody. Come on Barca!!”
Since trading the Reds for the Nou Camp, the Uruguay international has improved steadily as the season progresses and he has now become a regular scorer.
In 25 appearances in all competitions since the turn of the year, Suarez has netted 16 times and added a further seven assists, prompting widespread praise.
The 28-year-old became a unique player at Anfield during his stint on Merseyside and he is now well on his way to becoming just as important at the Nou Camp.
