A player linked with a move to Newcastle United has allegedly decided to move to Italy rather than England.
According to a report from French publication L’Equipe, alleged Newcastle United target Andre Ayew has opted to move to AS Roma this summer, provided the Italian side qualify for the Champions League.
Given that they are currently third in Serie A, five points clear of fourth-placed Napoli and level on points with second-placed Lazio, that seems likely.
A recent report from the Mirror claimed Newcastle had made a firm approach to the 25-year-old’s representatives, with Ayew out of contract in the summer.
It was claimed the Magpies were willing to offer the player a lucrative four-year deal to sign on at St James’ Park, but it it seems they could now be left disappointed.
Ayew has played 203 games for current club Marseille, scoring 58 goals and providing 24 assists in that time. He has also been capped 63 times for Ghana, scoring 11 goals to date.
The left-winger can also play as an attacking midfielder or in a forward role if required and there is little doubt he would have been a fine addition to Newcastle’s squad.
But if the latest report is true, it seems Roma are soon to benefit from the player’s talent, leaving the Magpies to look elsewhere for summer additions.
