The defender missed his first game of the season.
Crystal Palace took on Hull City today, but were disappointing as they went down 2-0 against The Tigers. Dame N'Doye found the net twice as Hull enjoyed a win that takes them ever closer to Premier League survival.
The game was however missing a player that Crystal Palace fans are not used to being absent. Joel Ward has played in every Premier League game for the club this season.
But he did not feature today. He picked up a knock in training and picked up his first red cross of the season.
His absence certainly showed. Ward has been an ever-present for a reason, one of the most consistent defenders in the Premier League this season.
After the game, Palace boss Alan Pardew was bemoaning the loss of the player.
He does however hope to have Ward back for the game with Chelsea at the weekend, something he thinks Chelsea will not appreciate. He is quoted by the official Crystal Palace Twitter account as stating:
AP: It's hard to say what was missing. We missed Wardy's quality at the back.— Crystal Palace FC (@CPFC) April 25, 2015
AP on Ward: Fingers crossed he will be back for Chelsea. I'm sure Chelsea aren't [crossing theirs]. He's been great. It's a shin injury.— Crystal Palace FC (@CPFC) April 25, 2015
Palace are safe so therefore the Eagles are unlikely to risk the defender if he is not 100%. Perhaps they should just give Ward an early holiday.
