Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has explained to Sky Sports why Everton need to end the season strongly.
Much was expected of Everton this season, but Roberto Martinez’s side are having a poor 2014-15 campaign and were flirting with relegation just a few weeks ago.
Things have improved now for the Toffees, who are currently 12th in the Premier League table with 41 points from 33 matches and are safe from relegation.
Former Liverpool defender Carragher believes that Everton need to finish the season strongly in order to make a positive start to the 2015-16 campaign.
"They want to finish strongly," the 37-year-old told Sky Sports. "For a large part of the season it’s been quite negative and the supporters have been disappointed with how it’s gone.
“There’s nothing worse than going into the summer on the back of a bad run of results. It can sometimes affect the start of the next season.”
Everton can still finish in the top 10 of the Premier League this season, and if they do so, then they can be satisfied.
The way the Toffees have been playing in recent weeks has shown that they can challenge for a European spot next season.
The Merseyside outfit are unbeaten in their last five Premier League matches, winning four of them, and that is very encouraging indeed.
Although picking up all three points from the clash against Manchester United at Goodison Park on Sunday will not be easy, Everton should feel confident heading into the encounter.
