Leeds United fans react on Twitter to Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink rumours

The Sun has reported that Massimo Cellino is lining up Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink to become the next manager of Leeds United.

The Sun has reported that Massimo Cellino wants former Leeds United striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink to replace Neil Redfearn as the club’s manager.

The paper claims that the former Dutch international is the Italian’s number one choice for when he resumes his role at Elland Road, after his ban from the Football League expires.

Leeds are going through a bit of a chaotic period behind the scenes at the club with Redfearn’s assistant Steve Thompson suspended and Cellino denying, also in the Sun, that he asked players to go on strike ahead of the recent game against Charlton.

It all adds up to a very difficult situation for Redfearn, with the rug effectively pulled from out beneath his feet and him landing in a difficult position.

There’s been no sign of a new contract, with his current deal set for review at the end of the season.

Leeds chairman Andrew Umbers explained in the Yorkshire Evening Post that the decision over whether Redfearn stays on lands at the feet of Cellino, so if the Sun’s report is accurate, he won’t be getting a new deal.

Hasselbaink would not be a bad replacement, having just guided Burton Albion into League One for the first time, but it’s unclear as to whether he could be persuaded to switch his allegiance from the side he’s been working so closely with.

Leeds would do well to give Redfearn his old position with the academy back if they decide to move on with someone else, because one of the biggest and best things about his reign as Leeds boss is the way he has nurtured the club’s young talent.

The aim at Leeds remains the same; get into the Premier League, but who will have the chance to do that next season isn’t clear.

Here’s what Leeds United fans have had to say about the rumour on Twitter.
