West Ham have not been anywhere near their best over the course of 2015, but Allardyce has expressed the importance of the club ending the season well.
“Put them in the ice bath! That should wake them up. But seriously the focus should be that we want to finish on a high,” said Allardyce.
“People think we’re having a bad season because our bad run is coming at the end of the season. Finishing the season well, gives everyone a high going into the summer.”
It’s important for a variety of reasons as to why the Hammers finish the season well, predominantly because of Allardyce’s own position.
Big Sam has been given no clear indication that he will be kept on for next season as the manager and he can strengthen his case if West Ham finish well, with good performances.
Not only will that improve the club’s league position, it will also convince one or two critics that Allardyce has the potential to get the side playing with an impressive style.
Finishing the season well is also going to create momentum and give the players positive frames of mind before they head off on a summer break.
It’s all about positive feeling, which will make difficult jobs throughout the summer just that little bit easier.
