The talented Argentine is currently on loan at the Yorkshire club.
One of Arsenal's young talents who has been out on loan this season has received some high praise from his current manager.
Argentine goalie Emiliano Martinez has spent the past month on loan at Rotherham United of the Championship, impressing in his five games at the club. He also had an impressive stint at Sheffield Wednesday last season.
Rotherham boss Steve Evans has been very impressed and told The Star today that Martinez has a bright future in the game.
“I think he’s been great for us. We’re going to be watching Emi on Match of the Day in six to eight months and then for a number of years as Arsenal’s number one.
“I know for a fact he has a couple of clubs in the top division in Spain wanting to take him on season-long loans. It wouldn’t surprise me then that if we’re not seeing him in the Premier League we’ll be seeing him against Barcelona and Real Madrid. That’s how well he’s regarded.”
Strong words from the Rotherham supremo, but this has certainly been something of a breakthrough year for Martinez. The 22-year-old has had to step up and be counted for Arsenal this season when injuries struck both David Ospina and Wojciech Szczesny in November and December.
He has played six times for Arsenal this season and kept three clean sheets, performing well under immense pressure for one so young.
He is prone to the odd error, but that may iron out with age and Martinez will certainly have his eyes on a first-team place at Arsenal in the not so distant future.
