The Real Madrid forward and former Manchester United man sang the iconic tune with the kind of gusto he usually reserves for a Portugal international.
Cristiano Ronaldo loves the Champions League. He loves it so much that even the famous theme tune that accompanies each and every game appears to hold a special place in his heart.
Winner of the competition on two separate occasions with Manchester United and more recently Real Madrid, CR7’s affection for the competition was on display yet again this week.
Lining up for Los Blancos in their second-leg quarter-final against Atletico Madrid, the Portuguese winker was captured singing along to the familiar tune.
A relatively modern creation, based on a piece of music by G F Handel entitled “Zadok the Priest” which was reworked by Englishman Tony Britten back in 1992, the Champions League theme is a popular fixture of European nights.
But few have sung it with quite the gusto Ronaldo managed, belting out the tune in a piece of footage which was subsequently posted on YouTube by MrTopSports.
The Real Madrid record-breaker’s vocals are so boisterous, in fact, that they prompt a look of surprise from teammate James Rodriguez, who is stood next to him.
Ronaldo went on to set up the only goal of the game for Javier Hernandez in a 1-0 victory that saw Real progress to the semi-finals.
But for our money, his biggest contribution on the night came with this amusing vocal.
Will he start a trend of players singing along?
At the very least, we can imagine Gareth Bale copying him next time out.
