Report: Sunderland pursue Franco Di Santo, 14-goal hitman could cost £8m this summer

Weserstadion - Werder Bremen

Sunderland are reportedly interested in signing Franco Di Santo this summer.

According to the Daily Mail, Sunderland are considering an £8m summer bid for Werder Bremen's former Chelsea striker Franco Di Santo.

The Black Cats aren't guaranteed of Premier League survival just yet, with manager Dick Advocaat still requiring a couple more wins to be absolutely sure.

If the Dutchman does keep Sunderland up, then big changes are expected in the squad at the Stadium at Light, with reinforcements desperately required.

The Daily Mail now believe that Sunderland are pursuing a deal for Werder Bremen striker Di Santo if they manage to achieve Premier League survival.

The Argentine, 26, made his name in the Premier League with Chelsea, Blackburn Rovers and Wigan Athletic, before moving on to the Bundesliga in 2013.

Despite being streaky in front of goal in the Premier League, Di Santo has smashed 14 goals in just 23 games in all competitions for Werder Bremen this season, rebuilding his reputation in the Bundesliga.

With just one year left on his contract at the Weserstadion, Werder Bremen may be vulnerable to losing their star striker - but a deal to lure him away from the club would cost around £8m.

That's a huge amount of money and considering that Sunderland already have Jermain Defoe, Steven Fletcher and Connor Wickham at the club, they may have to let one leave in order to fund a move for Di Santo.
