Rene Adler rejected Arsenal twice, now he is struggling for Bundesliga's basement side

The German international has had a tough season with injury and form.

Arsenal have had their name linked with a long list of goalkeepers over the years. One name that often came up was that of Rene Adler. The Hamburg stopper has been linked with Arsenal for over two years and in Ocotber 2013 the stopper revealed he had twice rejected a move to The Gunners, as reported by Metro.

But when it came to signing a new keeper in the summer Arsenal went for David Ospina. The Colombian has impressed since becoming the number one ahead of Wojciech Szczesny, while Adler is having a horror season.

The stopper has suffered a series of serious injuries this term. The German international, who has 12 caps for his country, has played just seven times this season because of a persistent ankle problem - with former Fulham man Jaroslav Drobny stepping up in his place.

When he did eventually return in February he had to spend most of his time on the bench, as Drobny stayed between the sticks.

He recently returned to first-team action, playing in Hamburg's last five games, all of them defeats.

In fact, this season he has not been on the winning side with Hamburg once and he looks a long way off a stopper who twice rejected Arsenal.
