Phil Thompson reacts to Henderson contract, takes dig at Sterling?

The Liverpool legend was full of praise for the midfielder.

Liverpool legend Phil Thompson has heaped praise on Jordan Henderson after he signed a new contract with the club but may have also taken a dig at Raheem Sterling in the process.

While Henderson's Anfield future is all sorted, the latter's contract talks with the Reds are currently on hold, according to Sky Sports...

Thompson could have been innocently tweeting purely about Henderson, of course, but, considering the recent Sterling drama, there's more than a hint of possibility he wasn't.

Those replying to him on Twitter certainly thought so - both Liverpool fans and some supporting Manchester United.

Indeed, there was plenty of tagging of Sterling's own Twitter handle, with many catching on to what they perceived as a reference to the 20-year-old's handling of his own future.

However many criticise Henderson, though, or scrutinise Liverpool for paying the 24-year-old such high wages, there is no doubt tying one of their biggest leaders down to a new contract is a huge plus for the club. It is just a shame, though, that it seems to have been done as a measure to counter the disappointment of the Reds being knocked out of the FA Cup...
