Former Arsenal pundit expects Southampton to beat Tottenham this weekend.
The match sees Spurs head coach Mauricio Pochettino visit his former side for the first time, having beaten them 1-0 at White Hart Lane in October through a Christian Eriksen goal.
Merson said: "I’m going to go for a Southampton win. They haven’t been on the best of runs, but I think they’ll beat Tottenham at home. They need to pick up their results.
"Southampton had a disappointing result last week at Stoke, while Tottenham had a good win at Newcastle, but I’m just going to go with the Saints here."
He predicted Ronald Koeman's side would prosper with a 2-1 scoreline.
The game is a real chance for Dutch boss Koeman to solidify his side's superb season, in which many predicted they would struggle after selling off a number of supposedly key players.
Both sides have displayed mixed form over the last six games, but in the form table, both have 10 points from a possible 18, with three wins, a draw and two losses each.
If Tottenham win they will have a top six place more or less secured, and Europa League football. If they lose, and end up finishing seventh, entry will be granted to the competition, only if Arsenal beat Aston Villa in the FA Cup final. If Tim Sherwood's side win then they will be awarded the place.
