Martin Keown discusses Arsenal's title chances for next season

The ex-Arsenal defender feels the north London side need some of Chelsea's intensity.

Martin Keown believes the Gunners could challenge for the Premier League title next term but only if they can adopt some of Jose Mourinho and Chelsea's intensity, according to the Daily Mail.

Far from Brendan Rodgers' laughable overuse of the word, Keown believes Arsenal require more of that key quality should they seriously mount a title tilt.

For Keown, discussing next season feels like 'deja vu' but he says this is a different side to the one that ended last campaign.

Asked if Arsenal can win the Premier League next season, the former defender said: "It feels like deja vu! This time last year Arsenal had given up their quest to win it. Then, with Welbeck and Sanchez joining in the summer, it was felt they could be the players to make the difference. Then Arsenal started terribly.

"Ironically, some of the Mourinho/Chelsea intensity needs to find its way into the Arsenal dressing room.

"It seems to be a different Arsenal that is finishing this season compared to the one that ended last season. They are coming on strong and that is because there is more steel and determination in their game."

One can never truly know with the Gunners, of course.

A popular - and fair - criticism of the north London side is that they produce their best when not under pressure. If they were just points away from winning the league, for instance, would they be playing with such form?

History suggests Arsenal would choke. But is this a new Arsenal - one buying the best instead of selling - that can truly challenge for the title again next season? Let's wait and see: Chelsea will certainly have something to say about it...
