Paris Saint-Germain were eliminated from the Champions League by Barcelona 5-1 on aggregate on Tuesday night. In both games former Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye played from the start but in both matches he failed to make any sort of positive impact.
Speaking to French radio station RMC, quoted by MaxiFoot, former Olympique Lyonnais midfielder Juninho Pernambucano made an attack on the PSG midfielder:
"You know when Cabaye will perform in this team? Never. Because he is not suitable, he has never experienced an atmosphere like that. He has had smaller atmospheres, so you feel it won’t happen when he plays.”
Ever since he arrived at the capital club, Cabaye has struggled to settle into Parisian life. This season he has played 20 games in the league but injuries, suspensions and poor form have led to just one goal from the former Lille midfielder.
Cabaye has hoping for similar success from the league and cup double he achieved at Lille, but although he will ultimately pick up the medals, he has in no way had the same impact he had at Les Dogues.
If the France international wants to keep his place in Didier Deschamps' France national team, he needs to move away from PSG this summer. He missed the latest squad through injury, so it will be interesting to see what Deschamps does when the next international fixtures come around.
For Cabaye’s sake, he needs to have already moved away from Paris before the squad is announced.
