Liverpool will be eager to make up for a poor performance in the FA Cup semi-final last weekend against Aston Villa, when they take on another Midlands club this weekend in the form of West Brom.
One of the key match ups during the game is going to fall in defence with Joleon Lescott key for the Baggies, while Liverpool’s Martin Skrtel will be looking to shake off the nightmare involving Christian Benteke from his last game.
|Position||Team||Goals||Won Tackles Per Game||Duels Won Per Game||Aerial Duels Won Per Game||Interceptions Won Per Game||Passing Accuracy||Appearances||Mins Played|
|Joleon Lescott||DF||West Brom||1||1.31||4.83||2.38||2.31||77%||29||2,610|
In terms of the core areas of tackling and interceptions, Lescott is ahead on both counts, which suggests that he’s got a better sense of natural timing.
Unsurprisingly Skrtel is ahead in terms of the number of duels he’s won, the number of aerial duels he’s won and his basic passing stats.
West Brom can’t look to try and bully Liverpool’s backline because that’s when Skrtel steps up and comes into his own.
They need to try and be more subtle, using pace and movement to pull him out of position, which should help to create holes in Liverpool’s defensive system.
Lescott just has to get stuck in and do the basics well and whoever edges this key battle will most likely be on the winning side.
