Only at Leeds United...
A quite ridiculous set of events has added to the ongoing saga at Leeds United, after defender Giuseppe Bellusci was involved in a row with a fan on Twitter.
Bellusci was one of the six players who pulled out injured ahead of last week's trip to Charlton, a scenario met with deep suspicion by fans, only for the club to confirm on their website this week the Italian international will miss the final games of the season.
His relationship with supporters hit a new low last night, after he reacted angrily to falling victim to a trick from a Twitter user.
Leeds fan Euan Kow sent him a photo of Madeleine McCann, claiming it was his lost sister, asking him to retweet it.
The intention was to make Bellusci look silly, and unaware of the high profile case, the Leeds defender did what he was asked to do.
Told about the situation, Bellusci apologised for falling foul of the prank.
Sorry I didn't know!!!— Giuseppe Bellusci (@peppe_ele) April 23, 2015
That would not be the end of it however. Bellusci was clearly annoyed, and sent a Tweet out to the supporter telling him to come and meet him. The Italian would later delete the message, but not after it was seen by countless fans, with the situation summed up by one of them.
Only at Leeds do you get a player offering a fan out. The same player who earlier retweeted an appeal for Maddeline McCann.— Wardy (@wardylufc_) April 23, 2015
Kow proudly boasted of being called out by the defender nicknamed 'The Warrior'.
I'm off to thorp arch lads— Euan (@EuanKow) April 23, 2015
There is however surely no good to come out of this 'prank'. Bellusci is going to clearly feel he no longer has the confidence of the fanbase, and if he was not agitated before, he will be now.
Ruled out for the season and the club's plans uncertain, his future at the club is as up for debate as anybody else, and this will not help.
