John Carver’s simple response to Steve McClaren speculation

Steve McClaren

Derby County manager Steve McClaren has been linked with the job at Premier League outfit Newcastle United.

John Carver has responded to speculation about him and Steve McClaren being the only two candidates for the Newcastle United job in the summer, according to The Chronicle.

Carver is currently the head coach of Newcastle, but his contract with the Magpies runs out at the end of the season.

According to The Chronicle, the Englishman and Derby County manager McClaren are the two remaining candidates for the job.

When Carver was asked about this at Newcastle’s Benton base today, the 50-year-old simply said: “Is that right? Well that’s nice.”

It seems that Carver is not too bothered about speculation on his long-term position at Newcastle.

Perhaps the 50-year-old is already aware of what will happen in the summer, or maybe he is not thinking that far into the future.

While speculation on who will be in charge of Newcastle is likely to continue until the club make an official announcement, at this moment in time, the most important thing is for the team to remain in the Premier League.

The Magpies have lost their last six league games and are just seven points above the relegation zone.

It is imperative that Newcastle return to winning ways this weekend, and for that to happen, Carver and his players need to maintain their focus and not worry about speculation on the future.
