West Bromwich Albion number two Dave Kemp hails Liverpool's Steven Gerrard as best ever

Steven Gerrard takes a question during a pregame press conference

A member of Tony Pulis's backroom staff has hailed Steven Gerrard as Liverpool's greatest ever player.

Steven Gerrard has been hailed as the greatest ever Liverpool player by West Bromwich Albion assistant coach Dave Kemp, the Express and Star reports.

Gerrard is in the closing stages of his Liverpool career with his move to MLS side LA Galaxy drawing ever closer, with six games remaining in their season.

Kemp said: “He’s not only a fantastic player but, from talking to people of my age I know who watch Liverpool and have watched many great players perform for them, you ask them ‘who’s the best Liverpool player ever?’ and they all say Steven Gerrard.

“I take that into account quite frankly because they’ve had a lot of great players down the years. So that’s quite a statement.”

Kenny Dalglish is widely regarded as possibly the greatest player to play for the club - not only for his footballing ability but the amount of major honours he won for the club.

Gerrard has had his fair share of success but there is the notable omission of the League title from medal collection. However, there have been many big moments in his Liverpool career that have allowed him to rank alongside the likes of Dalglish and Billy Liddell.

Though Gerrard may be past his best now, Kemp was another figure in the footballing world to praise the outgoing Liverpool skipper for the contribution to his boyhood club, and he should remembered for those bigger moments.
