Celtic reacted well to the heartbreak of their Scottish Cup exit last weekend to get the better of Dundee in the Scottish Premiership last night with a 2-1.
Goals from Gary Mackay-Steven and Virgil van Dijk were enough to secure the three points for the Bhoys and manager Ronny Deila will be keen for the team to quickly put the result to one side and move onto the next game.
Van Dijk had a decent game over the course of the match and his goal will do his confidence the world of good, as will a decent basic defensive performance, which will bode well for the rest of the season.
A main worry for Deila will be what’s going to happen with van Dijk this summer, because it’s important the club hangs onto him due to the stability he provides to the back four across all games for the club.
The Daily Mail reported that Arsenal were interested in signing him last January and there could be more interest in him from the Gunners, and plenty of other sides, once the season is over and the transfer period gets under way.
The problem is that Arsenal are an example of a club who could put immense pressure on Celtic, but if they sell van Dijk and with Jason Denayer heading back to Manchester City, the boss could be left with a massive hole to fill through the heart of the defence, which is not going to be easy.
However, Celtic have offered him a platform to perform on and they offer a relative assurance of Champions League football each year, which is the sort of competition that van Dijk will want to perform in throughout his career.
Here’s what Celtic fans had to say on Twitter about van Dijk’s performance.

On a serious note though, would be very surprised if Virgil van Dijk didn't make the move south this summer. Another stunning free-kick.— Rohan Banerjee (@RBanerjee23) April 22, 2015
