Tom Ince has told Derby County's official website that Steve McClaren is getting the best out of him because he is being given more freedom to express himself.
Ince had struggled at Hull City and during a loan spell at Nottingham Forest earlier in the season, but he feels that McClaren has worked out how to get him firing on all cylinders.
The 23-year-old says that the creative licence his is allowed at Derby has made him enjoy his football again, and he is delighted to have been in such fine form.
"The biggest thing for me is just having the opportunity to play," he said. "The head coach is giving me tremendous faith and belief to play, as have the fans and everybody else at this club.
“They have said that I have had a tricky time over the last six to 12 months, but they are giving me the freedom to play and that’s when I’m at my happiest.
“When I’m happy playing my football, that’s when my best performances come out. To score the goals from the wide positions is an added bonus, but I’m just aiming to help this team achieve something special.”
At Forest Ince had looked well off the pace, with his loan spell not working out anywhere near as well as expected.
However, Derby have shown just how destructive Ince can be when he is enjoying his football and he has enhanced the quality of their squad considerably.
Ince will now be looking to ensure that he keeps his current standards up, as he looks to help McClaren's side win promotion to the Premier League.
