Last month, Spanish publication AS tweeted that the former Atletico Madrid man had caught the attention of Arsenal and United after impressing in the under-21 Premier League with the Rams.
In an interview with Madrid-based publication elgoldemadriz, the Derby attacker refused to close the door on the interest from the Premier League clubs and with just one year left on his current contract, the answer will leave Rams fans feeling uneasy about one of their brightest prospect's long-term future.
‘’It’s something I read but it’s not important to me as I have one more year on my contract here,’’ said Calero.
‘’I’m focused on working hard, improving and finishing the season strongly. We’ll see what can happen when it’s finished.’’
What next for Ivan Calero at Derby – could he join Manchester United or Arsenal?
The Spanish attacker has been one of the stand-out performers in the club's under-21 Premier League side this season and with his deal at the iPro Stadium running down, it’s not surprising that higher-placed clubs are interested.
The East Midlands side should look at the interest in the youngster and seek to extend his contract in an effort to prevent arguably one of their most valuable asset from leaving.
Next season, the Spaniard will be looking to make a bigger impact on the Derby first team and with a good pre-season, he may well get the chance.
United and Arsenal will no doubt be watching the youngster, who has captained Spain’s under-19s and been involved with the Atletico Madrid first team, very closely. However, Derby are unlikely to let him go without a fight.
