Liverpool's Balotelli vs Manchester United's Falcao: Who’s been the Premier League’s worst signing?

Balotelli

The Manchester United and Liverpool signings have failed to impress, but determining who is worse is a close run battle.

When it comes to bad signings from this season, there’s no need to look beyond Radamel Falcao and Mario Balotelli.

Manchester United arguably had one of their busier summers, with the star signing of highly sought-after Falcao one to get fans excited for the upcoming campaign.

Balotelli didn’t get that kind of fanfare at Anfield where he has always been a last resort - a gamble that may have not paid off and is yet to look like doing so at any point.

Both players look destined to leave their current clubs for pastures new in the summer, but which was the poorest piece of business?

These stats come from Oulala, and they don’t make for happy reading on either side.

In terms of goals, Balotelli has just the one compared to Falcao’s four, while his strike rate is also shockingly lower, standing at just 0.20% compared to the Colombian’s 11.8%.

He does however enjoy a better shot accuracy, coming in at 56% compared to 54%. That however, is where the victories end for the Italian.

He has yet to make an assist, Falcao has four, while his pass completion is also lower at 70% compared to the United man's 85%. Elsewhere, Falcao has a higher percentage of successful dribbles, while he has also managed to win more aerial duels.

So, on these standings it seems Falcao comes out on top. However, when it’s a victory in these kind of statistics, nobody is truly a winner.
