Report suggests Mike Ashley could find Daryl Janmaat offer difficult to resist

Newcastle United defender Daryl Janmaat is being linked with a possible exit from the club.

The Northern Echo has reported that Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley could find it difficult to resist a £10 million bid for defender Daryl Janmaat.

The paper suggests that Manchester United and Southampton are both interested in the Dutchman, who the Magpies signed last summer for a fee of around the £5 million mark.

United have the obvious benefit of being able to use Louis van Gaal’s relationship with Janmaat to their advantage, while the Saints could be hunting a new right-back if Nathaniel Clyne goes the same way as Luke Shaw and heads to Old Trafford.

There is hope for Newcastle fans that Janmaat will stay because the Echo claims that the club’s hierarchy have identified him as part of their plans for the future, suggesting an intention to protect him.

However, Ashley is a businessman and if it boils down to a significant profit on the cards for the club, he may be destined for the exit door before he’s really had a chance to help the club improve on the struggles they’ve been forced to endure throughout this season.
