Report: Marco Silvestri resumes training for Leeds United

Marco Silvestri is back in light training for Leeds United.

Leeds United goalkeeper Marco Silvestri is back in training, claims club chairman Andrew Umbers.

Umbers was speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post, discussing the injured players controversy at the club, insisting their was no foul play.

Silvestri along with Mirco Antenucci, Souleymane Doukara, Edgar Cani, Dario del Fabro and Giuseppe Bellusci all pulled out of the club's trip to Charlton with injuries less than 24 hours ahead of the game.

Amid a huge backlash on social media from Leeds fans, Silvestri was the one to protest his innocence most vociferously, having picked up a back injury against Norwich days earlier.

Silvestri is the only of the six said to have returned to training as the team prepare to face Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend.

Umbers said: "He’s done light training this morning but I mean gingerly training."

That is of course a step in the right direction, and probably says a lot about Silvestri's determination to put right any ill feeling generated by the storm which broke on Friday evening when the news about the players' absences was revealed.

Bellusci and Cani have been sent for scans, with Doukara and Antenucci potentially being back later in the week or next week, according to Umbers, who did not elaborate on Del Fabro other than to say he picked up a heavy knock last week.

Silvestri is by far the most important of the six, the only regular in the starting line-up, with veteran Stuart Taylor filling in.

The Star claimed yesterday head coach Neil Redfearn could refuse to pick any of the six for Leeds' remaining games, but at present only Silvestri is in line to put this to the test.
