Manchester United have made a bid for German international defender Mats Hummels, report Sport BILD.
Hummels has long been touted as a target for the club, and United's squad is lacking a centre-back with his experience and leadership qualities.
The Borussia Dortmund captain is likely to have a big decision to make on his future this summer with regard to United's interest.
Sport BILD report United have lodged an offer of €30 million, but this has not yet been enough to sway Dortmund.
Dortmund are holding out for €40 million for the defender, which is still a reasonable price considering his quality, and a similar fee Manchester City paid for Eliaquim Mangala last summer.
Dortmund are presently reeling from the announcement from long-serving coach Jurgen Klopp last week that he will quit the club at the end of the season.
Selling Hummels may not be ideal, but if Dortmund decide to cash in early then they will have a sizeable figure for a new manager to reinvest during the remainder of the transfer window.
