The Dutch under-21 international is a favourite of Saints boss Ronald Koeman.
Last summer Southampton lost plenty of big name players, so here is some potential good news for Saints followers. It looks as though one of Ronald Koeman's major reported targets has handed in a transfer request at Koeman's former club Feyenoord.
The player in question is Feyenoord's young midfield dynamo Tonny Vilhena.
According to Voetbal International, as reported by Voetbal Centraal, Vilhena is no longer discussing extending his contract beyond its 2016 expiration date and has effectively asked to leave the club in the summer.
Southampton were said to be after the player in January. The Daily Mail reported that a £5 million deal was in place to sign the player from the Rotterdam club but nothing ever came of it.
The 20-year-old was a regular in the Feyenoord team under Koeman, but has struggled to play on a regular basis this season. But Koeman is a firm believer in his abilities and is determined to sap him up this summer.
Koeman has had success with his knowledge of the Dutch market already, with Dusan Tadic, Graziano Pelle and Toby Alderweireld, Eljero Elia and Filip Djuricic all arriving at the club with previous in the Eredivisie.
