James Forrest picks ‘underrated’ Scott Brown as Celtic’s Player of the Season

James Forrest believes that Scott Brown has been the best player for Scottish Premiership giants Celtic this season.

James Forrest has explained to Celtic View why captain Scott Brown should be adjudged as Celtic’s Player of the Season for the 2014-15 campaign.

The Celtic winger believes that Craig Gordon and Stefan Johansen have been also been brilliant for the Bhoys this season, but he has given the final nod to the 29-year-old central midfielder.

“Broony (Scott Brown), Craig Gordon and Stefan Johansen have all been great, but I would go for Broony,” Forrest told Celtic View. “At the start of the season we were struggling but as soon as he came back in we picked up again.

“It was no shock that the team started playing well when he came back in - when he plays, that’s when we play our best.

"He brings fight, determination and he doesn’t get enough credit for his passing and ability on the ball as well.

"He is underrated, his passing and all-round game has been really good in the past couple of years.”

Brown is one of the best midfielders in the Scottish Premiership, and it will be a surprise to many that he has not been snapped up by a Premier League club.

The Scotland international has been a driving force from midfield for the Bhoys this campaign and is certainly a worthy candidate for the Player of the Season award.

The combative midfielder has been on the books of Celtic since 2007 when he moved from fellow Scottish club Hibernian.

Brown used to play just off the strikers at Hibs, but then under Hoops manager Gordon Strachan, he became a central midfielder and has since gone on to establish himself as one of the best in that position in Scotland.

It is no coincidence that Celtic’s struggles in the opening weeks of the 2014-15 campaign coincided with the injury that the 29-year-old suffered in pre-season.

Since Brown’s return, Ronny Deila’s side have become better and stronger.
