To celebrate David Luiz’s birthday, we take a look at some reasons it is impossible not to love him.
The Brazilian defender is certainly a great character, even if that doesn’t make up for his lack of defensive ability.
Currently turning out for PSG, the ex-Chelsea and Benfica man is a hit to behold on a football pitch, creating joy and breaking hearts in the space of 60 seconds. He can do something that no one else can with the ball, before defending as if he does not know the rules of the game a moment later.
Regardless, he is a player who it is impossible to hate, and to celebrate his birthday, we take a look at five of his greatest moments.
A passing resemblance to the famed Simpsons character has built the aura surrounding Luiz, with his curly locks and wry smile doing much to follow in the footsteps of the Bart Simpson’s nemesis.

Luiz may not be the best at preventing goals, but has does have a shot on him to match the best of them. Whilst his skills would be better suited learning the defensive side of the game, when he nets goals this like, he faults can be overlooked.
Maybe not great for him, but Luiz has certainly taken part in some embarrassing performances in his time. From the recent dismantling by Luis Suarez, to Brazil’s thrashing at the hands of Germany, the centre-back is certainly value for money.
A lover of football, Luiz is clearly enjoying his time whenever taking to the field of play, and it has brought a great number of celebrations out of him. Whether for the most mundane thing, or a game winning goal, he always looks to be living his dream playing football - something that is not seen all that often nowadays.
Alongside his repertoire of great goals from open play, he also has a hell of a penalty in his locker, as evidence by his vital strike as he led Chelsea to their first ever Champions League win.
