The Frenchman is looking to the Serbian midfielder Nemanja Matic for inspiration.
If Arsenal are to get one over on Chelsea, and Arsene Wenger finally get one over on Jose Mourinho, they are going to need one unlikely hero to be in top form.
At the start of the season not many an Arsenal fan would have predicted that Francis Coquelin would now be one of the first names on the team-sheet at the club.
But the Frenchman has become Arsenal's very own Nemanja Matic in recent times, doing the dirty work and allowing those further up the pitch to get on with their respective games.
And the French star has now admitted Matic is a player he admires. He told Arsenal.com today:
“What he’s done is unbelievable. At Chelsea he is one of the main men so credit to him, he’s had a great season and is a great player. It’s always good to play against players like that.
“It’s an important position and Matic has shown how important he is - that’s what I’m trying to do as well for Arsenal. The fans want a good defensive midfielder, they know it’s important for the team.”
The battle between the pair is certainly going to be an interesting one. Matic was in fine form against Manchester United last weekend whilst Coquelin did not have his best game against Reading in the FA Cup semi-final, mainly because the Berkshire side bypassed him for most of the game.
He will need to be much more on the ball if he is to outshine Matic and guide Arsenal to glory.
