Three of Arsenal's German contingent are competing against each other for an ambassador award.

As reported by Arsenal’s official website, three Gunners players have been nominated for the German Football Ambassador award.

The prize is given to a player who has acted as an ambassador for their country both on and off the pitch, and this year Mesut Ozil, Per Mertesacker and Lukas Podolski have all been put forward.

The winner will not be announced until June 2 but voting is now open to the public.

Mertesacker has recently been ruled out for a brief time with a minor ankle injury, meaning he will not be fit to face Chelsea in a crunch Premier League clash this weekend.

Ozil however should be available and the former Real Madrid midfielder will be hoping to maintain his outstanding recent form, with the 26-year-old scoring three goals and providing seven assists since his return from a serious injury.

Podolski is currently on loan at Inter Milan, but he has failed to really kick on as yet, setting up three goals but failing to score in 12 appearances to date.

It remains to be seen if the latter has a future at Arsenal given his January loan move and the other forwards available for Arsene Wenger. But it is likely that his recent form has not yet convinced the French manager that he deserves another chance back in North London.
