West Ham's Cheikhou Kouyate apologises to Manchester City's David Silva

A West Ham United player has expressed his regret at the incident that saw David Silva injured for Manchester City last weekend.

West Ham United midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate has taken to Twitter to send a message to Manchester City player David Silva.

The two clashed in Sunday’s Premier League match, with Silva requiring treatment for eight minutes before eventually being taken from the pitch and sent to hospital.

It has since been revealed that Silva’s injury is not as bad as first feared, with the BBC reporting that the City play-maker has not broken his cheekbone and will be monitored closely in the days ahead.

It is good news for City, who will know a top-four place is far from secure – and it is also likely to come as a relief to Kouyate.

The West Ham player took to Twitter on Tuesday to write the following message to Silva, which ultimately spread over three separate tweets:

“I would like to say to @21LVA that I am very sorry that you were injured during the match on Sunday, but it was not my intention. I went for the ball and my eyes were on the ball.

“I always play the ball and never the player. You are a great guy and a great player and I hope you are back on the field very soon.”

It is a heartfelt message and one that is likely to be warmly received by Silva.

Kouyate has impressed since he signed for West Ham last summer and he has been one of their star players in a season that promised much but has since faltered.
